Look After Yourself Friday

Mental Health days and practicing self-care on a regular basis are underrated.

Being the type of person who is always there for others while watching your mental health decline is what I like to call motherhood. That used to be me until I said to hell with y’all!

I’m putting myself on the list and not just anywhere; I’m going on top!

After contemplating running away and joining the circus (I’m entirely exaggerating), I realized that running away isn’t necessary, but setting boundaries is. I let my family know that if I’m not taking care of myself, then I feel depleted, so taking care of them is a laughing matter.

How does that saying go, “You can’t pour from an empty cup?”

I think that’s right. Well, it fits for sure. I constantly found myself pouring into everyone else and leaving nothing in the cup for me. And that’s not okay. You really know it isn’t right when you feel yourself slipping away.

There are only so many times you can successfully save yourself from yourself before you become unable to do so.

Knowing that you deserve to be a priority on your list feels right. And regardless of what anyone says, it isn’t selfish of you to practice self-care. Only people who are lying to themselves say it isn’t necessary, and if you haven’t noticed, they look like the world has whooped their ass with a bag of nickels.

How I’m looking after myself

This weekend, I’m headed to a spa for a massage and facial, and I’ll spend a little bit of time in Sauana. Not all of my self-care days require money. Often, my self-care is saying NO to someone and YES to my bed, a movie, and a glass of wine.

I would love to know how you’re looking after yourself this weekend. Even if it doesn’t seem like much to you, we would all still like to know. Practicing self-care can change your life but, more importantly, save your life.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  2. Oh boy, you nailed it with this description, “Being the type of person who is always there for others while watching your mental health decline is what I like to call motherhood. “

I’m spent. So I’ve scheduled a babysitter for 4 hours this weekend so I can do whatever I want!

  4. Writing and walking do it for me. I try to do both every day, especially on those times when that run away and join the circus feeling comes over me.

  5. Enjoy the spa, sounds amazing. After a long week , I plan on looking after myself by doing nothing. I have been looking forward to doing nothing all week and it’s finally here!💕💕💕

  6. We (especially as women) often take on these caretaking roles and lose ourselves along the way. Keep taking care of YOU, Belladonna!! You’re learning at a younger age than I did! ❤️
