Very few people genuinely care about what you have to say. Recognize that your time is valuable and should be spent with those who truly care about what you have to say. Be mindful of the individuals around you, and stop wasting your time talking to anyone who does not give you the attention you deserve.
There are several types of listeners, and here are a few:
1. The Interrupters: These individuals are listening just enough to wait for their chance to interrupt you. Can you really say they are listening? Probably not!
2. The Judges: These listeners may seem attentive, but they are busy assessing and critiquing your words. Once you leave the room, they will discuss and pick apart everything you said, often exaggerating points that don’t truly represent you or your character.
3. The Spacers: These people make zero eye contact and often stare off into the distance; they aren’t listening at all. In fact, you could speak for hours, and they wouldn’t even realize you were still talking.

4. The Supportive Listeners: These are the people who make you feel that everything is right in the world. They validate your thoughts and make you feel appreciated, reminding you of your worth.

All of these types of listeners are valuable in their own way; they can teach you how not to be and guide you toward becoming someone that others can lean on and value. By paying attention to them, you can learn and grow.
Excellent listening skills can be a deciding factor in getting that next-level promotion you’ve been eyeing and /or the one that your kids can confide in because they know you will listen attentively and talk when they are finished.
Competent listening skills are something that can separate the haves from the have-nots.
You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

You nailed most of the listening types perfectly. The only one I would’ve added is the constant affirmers Those are the ones who every time you pause they feel the need to make some kind of acknowledging noise 🙂

I took a class in college that was about being an active listener. It’s a skill that anyone can develop IF they want to. The problem is many people don’t want to listen.

It’s crazy how rare it is to come across someone who is a good listener, who actually listens without any expectations, or biases.

I hope I don’t come across as a spacer though I’m sure I do. I try to concentrate on what people are saying but have ADHD and it’s hard sometimes. 🤪

Paul at least you are aware. Someone just commented and said if someone is a talker then they will space out while trying to listen and I couldn’t agree more🤣
I feel like screaming when someone goes on and on!

I like the number 4 kind. I try to be that kind. There are some people in my immediate surroundings that are no. 1s, but it is o.k., they need to be heard, they have severe problems, and giving them a bit of my time is not too much to give, is it?
I love the picture with you and your husband! ❤

Bless you. Let’s all be better listeners.

I can be guilty of all of those, which one I choose depends upon whom or what I’m listening to. Some people can go on a bit!
