Why is it so hard to say I deserve this?
We deserve to praise ourselves.
We deserve to be grateful for where we are in life
We deserve to smile about our accomplishments
We deserve to share our trials and tribulations
We deserve to be proud of the storms we have weathered
We deserve to share our UPS as well as our downs
From now on, brag about yourself. Be your biggest fan, and do it with pride.
The other day, I was thinking about one of my best friends who passed away a few years ago, and I just cried my eyes out. I know that I will never have a friend like her again (at least, I don’t think so). We knew when we each felt pain. I could look at her face or hear that specific tone in her voice and knew right away that she needed me to be present.
Whenever we talked on the phone, I knew that hours would pass like minutes. We would begin by laughing so uncontrollably that my face would feel like it was about to fall off. And then, in a swift moment, we would be crying. Now that I think about it, I haven’t cried with a friend since she passed away, which explains a lot about my pinned-up emotions.
I miss her more than I could ever express. I need to hear her voice and laugh with her one more time. My heart hasn’t healed since her death, and I fear it never will.
One Of Our Last Phone Calls
During one of our last conversations, we talked for hours about loving all the good, bad, and ugly about ourselves. We knew that we deserved to show appreciation for our whole selves. We never deny the good that comes with the bad.
We spoke about all the good things that we have earned and deserve.
She was her biggest fan, and she taught me how to be mine.
I deserve to praise myself
I deserve to be grateful for where I am in life
I deserve to smile about my accomplishments
I deserve to share my trials and tribulations
I deserve to be proud of the storms I have weathered
I deserve to share my UPS as well as my downs
My heart is full of love and appreciation……until we meet again!
You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

You were blessed to have such a loyal friend. I know that what you’re saying here about praising yourself more often, out loud, is a good idea BUT I am a reserved person so it seems awkward to me. I’ll try to do better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Ally, the more you do it the better you get at it. And it just feels damn good to let it be known that you are proud of yourself, you deserve that!

Peace and blessings, Bella. It is hard when we lose that one person who reminds us to be US in our greatest totality.
May you continue to tap into your memories of her and grow from them, too. I definitely understand. 🙏🏾🩵

I am so sorry that you lost your best friend. I haven’t seen mine in person for 10-12 years now because she lives in England, has a dog now and cannot travel easily. Still, we are in contact every day via messenger. I don’t know what I would feel, if she suddenly wasn’t there anymore.
I have difficulties with sharing my personal achievements. We were raised with the thought that praising oneself would somehow jinx one’s luck; fate would stike back or something. That thinking is hard to overcome.
But I am with you there, we deserve all that! ❤

I hope you are able to reconnect with your friend soon. Yes I was taught that as well. If you praise yourself or feel good bout what you’ve done Ethen you bragging. Which will jinx you in the end.

What a heartwarming share about your friend. I had a few friends like that, both male and female. The type of friendship you had with your friend was priceless and nothing can compare to her. But at least Queen B, she left you with a very valuable lesson…to be your own cheerleader! You deserve it! 🤗💖😘
