Oh This Old Thing

Saturday night, we attended a charity event and had a blast!

Playing dress up is so much fun, and the idea of it never gets old. However, as much as I love playing dress-up, compliments are something that is hard to accept. I love giving them out, but I need to be more comfortable receiving them.

I try to channel my grandmother; she loved and accepted compliments gracefully!

I remember being at church with her every Sunday, and everyone would go on and on about how beautiful she looked, and they would go on and on about how stunning her outfit was. She would have the biggest smile and say, “Oh, this old thing, thank you.” Her face would glow during and after every compliment, and there would be A LOT.

She was the type of woman who took a great deal of time getting ready, and when she walked out of her room, the wait was worth it.

As she walked into the room, she knew that all eyes were on her, as well as her new pair of shoes and, of course, a pocketbook to match. When dressed up, she wore firey red lipstick and high heels and had a walk that screamed, “I AM THAT WOMAN.”

So, I must admit I try to channel her!

However, I have to reframe from saying, “Oh, this old thing” when I receive a compliment because I know, and my grandmother knew damn well, that our dresses were brand new.

The Event

My husband practiced Bachata, Salsa, and Samba for a few weeks so we could dance the night away. But before we slipped onto the dance floor, there was a silent auction, and we scored two tickets to see White Christmas, the musical. So we are looking forward to that!

I hope y’all had a fantastic weekend and having a great start to your week!

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  1. How wonderful that you and your husband had a blast at the charity event! You look stunning. Love your gown. Hubby looks great, too 🙂 I also enjoy dressing up and as I’ve aged, I’m much more comfortable in accepting compliments with smiles and thanks.

  3. The two of you look great! Looks like you had a blast. Yes, even wearing “that old thing.” Ha ha ha. I had to laugh … how was the dancing? During our last dress up (probably a wedding), I joked with my wife that we should take a ballroom dancing class. My wife hasn’t collected yet on my joke. I know it’s coming. I could be in trouble. Unfortunately I have two left feet!!!!
