Look After Yourself Friday

If you don’t look after yourself, then who else will?

I firmly believe that you shouldn’t depend on others to look after you; you have to put that responsibility on yourself, which brings me to my post published yesterday. I relied on someone to look after me and my well-being. I thought they would because I have looked out for them. If I say you’re my friend, I mean it and will always look out for your best interest.

Even if looking out for you means I have to be brutally honest!

But with maturity comes wisdom, and with wisdom comes the understanding that not everyone has your best interest in mind. And that’s okay; once you know where you stand with someone, it’s up to you to look out for yourself by dropping that zero. And when you drop all the people that aren’t for you, life tends to get a little sweeter.

How I’m looking after myself today and tomorrow

Today I am looking after myself by sharing a podcast with y’all. So please, please, please tune in and join me for my second episode!

Later I will watch Only Murderers In the Building while snacking on my dates (here’s the recipe) and drinking a beautiful glass of red wine. Oh, and tomorrow I will be eating tacos, lots of them.

My weekends are mine, so good food and desserts are always on the menu.

I would love to know how y’all are looking after yourself today. It’s a beautiful day to have a beautiful day, so I hope y’all decide to take a walk, enjoy nature, drink plenty of water, read a good book or listen to calming music that makes your soul feel good.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  1. Wow!! Perfectly Said!! Amen!! It is certainly True when they say “Self-Care,” is our top priority. If we can’t take care of ourselves, we certainly aren’t physically and mentally capable of taking care of others. Get it Girl!! 🎉🎉👊🏼👊🏼

  2. OK so yes to taking care of ourselves and not feeling bad about it! I just made the decision to invest in an aspect of my business I’ve been neglecting and know it’s the right thing. When we take time for ourselves, we are able to help even more people. Keep shining bright — And I liked that series with Steve Martin, made me laugh and also didn’t see certain parts coming!

  3. I took way too long to learn that…I still try to surround myself with good people, but, well, an uncle once told me to be a locomotive and not a caboose….if everyone else is turning right, and I want to turn left, I turn left…..Bob Dylan sang that we had to serve somebody, I prefer to serve my self, but, sometimes with a little help from my friends, they sometimes eventually trust me and follow

  4. I agree with ya and have found that a lot of people always are looking for something when wanting to be your friend. Very few it seems are not like like that.. as for my self care the past few days, been trying to rest this knee the best I can. Will check out your podcast as well. Wonder if i can grab that on google casts as well.

  5. Hey lady I listened to your podcast and omg Wow!! There were sooo many strong points you made in that podcast I would like to comment on and how I strongly I can relate. But for some reason I’m not able to comment or leave a voice response to your podcast on Spotify. I just have the Free Version. So I will leave my comment here if that’s okay….Okay so you were speaking about that girl who you were going to rent to and she basically screwed you over and she broke your trust. And now you are Leary on trusting others. It opened your eyes to a whole new perspective and how evil and deviant others can be. Girrrrrrrlllll!!! I can Relate in More ways than one!!! I have been screwed over in more ways than one by sooo many people… Especially family….The main people that most people put there trust in the most. It’s true what they say; The ones who hurt you the most are family. I have Soo many stories of how I have been screwed over by family and how cautious I am and how little trust I have in other’s. GREAT Podcast!!! 👊🏼👊🏼💯💯💯💯

    1. Jenny I am so happy you listened! Thank you so much. And girl yes, family are the worst. They know how to sting you the hardest and when you least expect it. I do allow myself the chance to trust and get close to people but my guard stays up for awhile, because you never know!

      1. Yes absolutely. I Agree 110%! We have that in common; my guard is also always up. I hope for the best BUT ALWAYS prepare for the worst. I’ve had waaaay too many family members turn their back on me when I needed them the most…. including my biological family…. I’ve also had “friends,” and church members turn their backs on me as well. So yes, I know all too well what it’s like to always have your guard up…. Especially when I am triggered.
