His Love Healed My Ear

Love, a seemingly simple word, is paradoxically complex. It’s composed of only four letters and one syllable, yet it carries the most profound impact and feeling that one can express.

When someone loves you, they don’t need to reassure you by telling you every chance they get. Saying it can get dull and lifeless. Imagine if every time you saw your partner, they said, “I love you more than anything in the world,” yet they treated you like yesterday’s news.

Or worse, a stale piece of bread!

Yesterday I started to feel under the weather. My head was spinning, and then my right ear began to throb. And then, bam, just like that, my head was pounding and I thought it would for sure land me on the bathroom floor, worshiping my porcelain, God.

I eased out of my bed as quietly as I possibly could without waking my husband. Then, I slowly opened up my bedroom door so I could make a poor attempt to tiptoe down the stairs and grab two ibuprofens. But as soon as I turned my doorknob, Larry began to bark.

Every night, he sleeps with my daughter. He thinks he’s her protector because he refuses to sleep anywhere else, and she wouldn’t dream of being without him. I love their connection, but I hate the fact that at night I can’t walk freely. We are all prisoners in our room, and no one wants to wake up the warden!

After what felt like an eternity, I finally made it back upstairs. My head and ears were still pounding. As I lay there, my husband, who I knew was still sleeping, turned over and did something unexpected. He gently placed his warm hand on my ear.

That made me smile through the pain. I knew he was still sleeping because I whispered, “Thank you, and he didn’t say a word.

And he didn’t need to because his love healed my ear.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine —and I’m honored!
