Look After Yourself

Remember, no one can look after you quite like you can. Prioritize your well-being because you deserve it!

This week, I have watched case after case of young girls being murdered by someone they considered their prince charming.

The phrase prince charming really pisses me off!

These young girls must be self-aware, not run around with blinders on, and recognize and act on red flags. They deserve better than settling for trash.

Remember, being alone isn’t a negative thing. It’s a choice that can keep you safe and alive. Settling for less could make you a statistic, and you deserve better than that.

The case that sent me spiraling

I watched a murder case of Nicole, a 38-year-old woman who was writing her ticket in life. She was an entrepreneur who was celebrating the success of opening her second clothing store.

She was the mother of a beautiful 17-year-old daughter, and she was following in her mother’s footsteps. Well, that was until she saw that her mom attracted the type of man that she ran from.

Nicole had it all: new businesses, a new car, and a new house. She moved her child out of a dangerous neighborhood and into one that was cozy and safe. It was the type of area where people felt safe as they jogged in the morning and took their dogs for walks in the evening.

But Nicole felt incomplete!

She viewed herself as the “ugly girl” who would never find someone who would find her attractive enough to stick around for the long haul.

Then here comes Darryl: He has no job, no car, no future, and he is freshly out of prison after serving five years for theft. But he says all the right things, and within days, he sweeps her off her feet.

She admired his broad shoulders and his beautiful chocolate skin, which she described as smooth and rich. He had this swag about him that made men fear him and women drool over him.

But he wanted her, and that made her feel beautiful!

She showered him with trips out of the country, surprised him with a brand-new Mercedes, and took him to Turks and Caicos for his birthday. When they arrived, she had an envelope with $15,000 in it just for him.

She never let a day pass without telling him how grateful she was that someone as handsome as him chose her.

The End of Their Love Story

After five years of showering him with money and possessions, she couldn’t help but notice that he was cheating on her and becoming more distant unless she gave him more valuables.

Then the abuse started: one black eye turned into broken ribs, a busted lip, and followed by, if you want me, give me what I need.

She finally said no, and he shot her five times…..FIVE TIMES!

I wish she had looked after herself by putting herself on a pedestal.

How are you looking after yourself?

  1. So many women (and some men) fall into this trap. And it just breaks my heart.

    That part!!!

I’ll be looking after myself today with our morning walk, a short trip to the grocery store, reading, watching movies, and meditating.

    Happy Saturday, Bella!

  2. It is so sad, that so many people think so lowly about themselves that they fall into the hands of unscrupulous, toxic people.

Better alone with a few good friends, than living with a toxic partner.

We were on an excursion today in splendid weather with a group of people we know. We visited a sculpture park, had a breakfast picnic there, and as nobody wanted to go home, we also had late lunch together at a restaurant. It was an all around cosy day.

    1. Ruby you are so right! We blame the women all the time for going back but they feel trapped. Often times they feel like they are the the cause!!
Ruby, Thank you so much for reading.
