Look After Yourself

Because if you don’t, no one else will!

When I was a young Bella, a single Bella, a Bella without children, I was under the impression that once I became all the things that I wasn’t, I would have to push myself to the back burner.

And for a short while, I did just that!

When my third child came along, I gained 40 pounds more than what I was used to carrying, and I was uncomfortable with who I had become. Now, I know weight doesn’t define you, but for me, I’m not my best self if I’m overweight.

My top priorities were

  1. My kids and husband
  2. Relationship with God
  3. Being involved with my kid’s school and extracurriculars
  4. My household
  5. Running a new business

Last on the list

  1. Me
  2. Me again
  3. And me again
  4. And once again, ME

You might see ME on the list four times, but yeah, I never made it that far on my list. Looking after myself wasn’t a thing. I felt guilty going to the gym, going for a walk alone, lifting weights, and making special meals just for me.

That’s crazy thinking!

I chose ME

When my youngest child was six months old, I popped back on my list and NEVER stopped looking after me

Are you looking after yourself? If not, why?

If you are feeling like you don’t deserve to, I would love to know why you feel that way. Sometimes, the way we think is because of how we were raised or due to what we saw growing up.

Taking care of yourself is a precious responsibility and a must if you want to feel truly fulfilled. And with that, I would love to know how you are planning to look after yourself this weekend.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  1. I once took a pole and was asked to list I think it was 5 people I worry about….and yes, Iisted a daughter, and 4 younger employees that worked for me….and the person asking us to do this exercise asked why we didn’t put ourselves on that list…so, a hmmm moment…..I seriously still never worry or think of myself first….

  2. I totally agree with you Bella. I believe that this message should be preached to everyone especially mothers and wives out there because they easily lose themselves all in the name of getting married which is not supposed to be so

  3. I felt this post wholeheartedly! I have a caretaker personality and I just naturally want to care for others, but I ended up not happy with me! I have been like an unkept garden, but I’m learning and cutting down the weeds! Blessings to you!

  4. I’m glad you made yourself a priority! This weekend I am just going to relax, take some me time, and chill out! Tomorrow morning, I plan on having a nice bubble bath, waxing my lip and chin, and shaving my arms and legs, all necessary things that I need to do to take care of me!

  5. Mother does not equal martyr! What better way to raise healthy, mindful children who make time for themselves than to model it for them so it’s second nature? (She says after doing the opposite for most of her early mothering years!).
