Life is unpredictable, and sometimes shit happens!
A year ago, I found out that I was having problems with my thyroid, and then my doctor told me that I needed surgery. He then said there is a 70% chance that I have thyroid cancer; my first thought was….”ain’t that some shit.” Well, actually, it wasn’t a thought, those were my exact words, and my heart broke a little bit as I was saying it.
After my shock wore off, I looked at him and said, “Okay, what do I need to do so we can take care of this?” “I have things to do and kids to raise, so let’s fix this ASAP!”
Long story short, I had surgery on February 1st, and I’m fixed.
Shit Happens, to everyone and here are the two choices I give myself when shit strikes;
- Fold and cry and remain broken
- Fight to find a way out and put myself back together again
Both of them are tough choices, and you need someone strong that you can lean on, talk with, cry with and walk beside. Not having support will make your mountain harder to climb, so be grateful if you have what many don’t. Support will carry you when shit strikes.
Hopefully, after you make it through your storm, you have learned a thing or two about life and how to make the most of it. For me, I carry a message that I have never entirely had before. “Don’t make excuses.” I know you think that I often say that about a daily workout regimen, but oh no, no, no. When I used to say Don’t make excuses, I meant, don’t let anything stop you from your commitment.
But you know what? Sometimes life throws things at you that you didn’t see coming, and all you can do is breathe and try your hardest to gather yourself. I no longer try to come up with excuses as to why I didn’t finish a task, gained weight, skipped a few workouts, backed out of plans that I’m too tired to see out.
Nope, no more excuses here; now I simply throw my hands in the air and say, “shit happens,” and I carry on.
You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

Girlfriend, you handled that like Wonder Woman. Your title however, reminds me of that scene in Forrest Gump where he allegedly gives the guy the idea that Shit Happens for his bumper sticker after he stepped into a pile of it! 😝 🤣 😜 Fix it baby girl!!! 🤭

Thank you, it took a lot of tears and praying to get me to that point🙌🏾
Forrest was a mess! 🤣🤣🤣 I don’t know why I dislike that movie! Forrest was doing too much and he loved his Jenny.

Yeah, I sometimes felt sorry for poor Forrest. 😌 Yep, he certainly loved his Jenny. 💖 I don’t think he knew any other way to respond or to love. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get!!! 😜
Girl, I truly understand your journey through crying, praying, and crying some more.😰 🙏🏼 😥 But, as Maya Angelou said, “And so we rise!!!”

I am so glad that you are ‘fixed’! I have ‘moderately suspicious’ thyroid nodes that need to be checked in a year. What the heck does that mean – and how to frighten a patient. 😁 I really hope that the surgery will address any thyroid problems too. Sending you a hug! K x

I had to chime in because I relate to this piece so personally. Twenty years ago I had a thyroidectomy to remove two cancerous growth. I also had the surgery on February 1st. Looking back, the time leading up to the day of the operation was very much in that vein . . . shit happens!
In the days and weeks leading up to the surgery, I felt numb, scared, pissed, confused . . and those were the good days. And then came the day of the operation and I never felt so at peace. It was as if I had said to myself “Screw it, I’m kicking this feeling away. For good,”. And I did.
Best wishes to you on the other side Bella

We were having the surgery in the same exact day!!!!!!! I too felt at peace the day of and that’s so strange because leading up to surgery I felt like I wasn’t strong enough to make it through!!

Right? Same here. I found myself getting upset out of nowhere and then knowing, yeah . . I’m really kinda scared. And then that day, I achieved a peace I didn’t know I possessed. Crazy huh?
We are better people for it, Bella. I truly believe that.
Peace

Yeah hypo is a pain.. still working on how to fix mine. A few years ago when i was doing my herbals because I lost the use of my legs.. i suddenly became hyper and I wasnt taking my thyroid meds because i couldn’t.. figure that one out. It flipped put my endocrinologist and she swore I was over dosing. SMH this is the same one that tried to force me to take the COVID vax. She left the room to get security to hold me down and I slipped out.

What????????? Hold you down?? What the heck was she thinking

Go figure.. she made the mistake of telling me that she was going to make sure I would get it. I only knew she had went to get security because i seen them comming back down the hall with her. Why else would she go get them other than to hold me down?
