I understand that sometimes you may not be as interested in what I have to share, but it’s essential for both of us to be excited about each other’s good news. That’s the beauty of our friendship, right?
In life, I have been fortunate enough to have friends who will ‘ride to the end of the earth with me’, a phrase that signifies unwavering support and loyalty. I hear people say that phrase, and I’m like ‘WTF,’ yet here I am using it.
There are also friends who, despite leaving me questioning why I answer the phone when I see their calling, I can’t help but pick up. I know that if something is wrong, I would hate not to answer and be helpful if I can. That’s one of the things you should do for your friends.
Storytime
The other day, a friend of mine called me with really great news, and of course, I was excited for her. She knew that I would be, which is why she chose me to share her news with. Before I knew it, 30 minutes had flown by, and I needed to end the call, but before I did, I said;
I forgot to tell you, my son is going to be in the college video game, a significant achievement for him.
I was hoping for a bit of excitement or at least a ‘congratulations’, but she said nothing. I repeated what I had said, thinking we had a bad connection.
Still nothing, but an hmmmm!
Wasn’t quite sure what hmmmm meant, but I knew it pissed me off, so I ended the conversation. We haven’t spoken since, and quite frankly, I don’t have the desire to talk to her anytime soon.
If this were the first offense, I would be fine, but she’s a repeat offender.
You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

People are WORK! Really, I don’t remember maintaining friendships ever being so draining.
I’m thankful for my best friends and close friends, too. I’m hanging on to them for as long as I possibly can. Trying to make new friends is exhausting. 😩🥺😭
I hate that your friend couldn’t reciprocate the same excitement. It takes two minutes to do that. *Sighs*

Yeah just have to lower my expectations of people 😞
New friends suck!! It takes so much out of you and then they move to fast, wanting to do to much and I’m like leave me alone! 🤣🤣

Friends can definitely disappoint us, depending on what’s going on in their lives or how they’re feeling about themselves. It can feel hurtful and dismissive, right? I’m afraid I may have inadvertently been one of those friends given recent events in my life. Thank you for this reminder to be more present. ❤️💖

You’re right this really mass me become more present for my friends and family. I never want to come off as the insensitive jerk.

Hi Bella, I’ve had friends that I’m available for when they need me, but, not Vice-versa. Their commitment to us just isn’t as great. And yes this was a routine thing, not just every once in awhile.

I’m sorry to hear that Ruby! It really is a crappy realization that we have to live with or choose to part ways. I am no longer available for those that aren’t available for me.
