Did the house choose them?

Every show about selling or purchasing a home made it seem as though the buyers or sellers were making the decision. But after seeing what Eliza has seen, she’s sure it’s just the opposite. This personal realization has completely changed her perspective.

Eliza, a mere 12-year-old, was oblivious to the unexpected secrets that the house held. The mystery, like a shroud, enveloped her innocent mind, shielding her from the eerie truths. As she explored the house, she often felt a presence, as if someone was walking alongside her.

Every so often, she stopped walking and turned around, expecting to see someone looking back at her. With a puzzled look on her face and an exhale of relief, she turned back around and hoped that she would feel the presence of whatever that was go away.

It never did!

Although Eliza was only 12 years old, she was acutely aware that the house her parents had chosen was not just new but also steeped in the land’s history. Like all lands, the land had a story to tell, a story that predated the arrival of the builders. 

When her three sisters, brother, mom, and dad moved into the house, their family dynamics instantly changed. Her father’s discomfort around them was palpable. If Eliza or one of her siblings entered a room he was in, he would startle as if the room was ablaze and rush to another room, or he would vanish for days at a time.

When he finally made his way back home, Eliza’s mom would tell her and her siblings to run and hug him and tell him how much they missed him. She warned them that if they didn’t, he would leave again and not come back. 

So, with a heavy heart, they would hug him and pretend that they missed him, but deep inside, they all knew that he was not who he used to be. The house had already claimed his soul.
