Look After Yourself Friday

Oh, would look at what we have here!

We made it to see another weekend. And when I tell you that I plan to run myself a bubble bath, watch trash TV, and drink wine, I mean just that!

No shame to my game.

But before I do that, let me tell you about the BIG nerve my 13-year-old daughter has.

BIG NERVE Story Time

Here I am, cleaning the carpet in my living room, minding my own business, may I add. My daughter was in the kitchen heating her up a chocolate chip waffle that I made for her greedy butt to have after her soccer camp. I hear the convection oven ding and her chair pull out, and then out of nowhere, she says,

“Mom, were you always boring?”

I said; Excuse me, little girl? I am big fun, and she said, “Well, not really; you and Dad don’t like to hang out with friends and go to parties.

Umm, okay, who the hell has time for a party when you work and deal with all the sporting events we have to go to? I have three kids that always need me, and not only that, but a good time for me is watching a good movie, working out, or reading.

Okay, I may be a little boring!

At this point, I put down my cloth and lay on the floor, cracking up laughing, and she was laughing too. In my defense, I used to be big fun, but adulting is what I like to call ghetto, and it makes you basic.

So here’s what she inspired me to do. I decided to book a getaway with just me and my love, no kids allowed. We take them on every trip we go on. But not this time. We are going solo and will be young, single, and kidless.

Big fun is about to be had! So today, I am thankful for my 13-year-old’s frankness because she reminded me that we (parents) do need to stop parenting sometime and have some fun.

I would love to know what y’all are doing to look after yourself today.
Remember to have some fun!

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  1. This is such a cute post, I understand this so much! My sons are 17 and 12, they have seen their mom in a less routine state but now that I have a daughter (who is a toddler) I feel like she may one day say this to/about me because Mama had to grow up at some point! Now I look for ways to keep these three entertained with such age gaps!

  4. Firstly, you and I will be having the same kind of day tomorrow – mindless TV and a long bath! That’s my kind of fun these days and I don’t apologize for it. Secondly, have a fun “kidless” getaway ~ You two deserv it. Have a wonderful weekend xx

  5. That’s great! Even if it took your daughter calling you boring to get you to do it. I’m so happy for you. I’m pretty boring too. I used to be fun before I got married but my husband is a homebody and he doesn’t like going out at all, and I don’t have friends and my family don’t go out like they used to.

  6. That rabbit looked like me last night at 11 PM, wondering why the lines of code weren’t working because finishing work was what stood between me and bedtime.
I think it’s normal for kids to think their parents are boring. On the flipside, if parents acted like their children to be more “exciting”, the kids would be shocked.

  7. Out of the mouth of babes, kids say the darnedest things. Even though, we see relaxing at home, just hanging with our love as fun, our but kids, see it as boring. I’m with you, I’m not one for parties, and hanging with friends, my wife is my comfort zone. You go girl, leave their “But’s” at home!
