Things that go bump in the night

So here we are at 4:00 in the morning, having the best sleep of our lives. And then, all of a sudden, the foot of my bed started to rise, and then the head of my bed followed. Before we knew it, my husband and I were smooched like a taco and didn’t know what to do.

Let me rewind my story

My back was over my last mattress, and it was no doubt time for a new one. So I went out hunting for a new one. As I lay down with the remote in my hand, I made the foot and head rise. As I did that, I felt all the pressure on my back release. So, of course, I first worked out a great deal after having them match the lowest price I found online, then I slammed my card down as fast as possible.

I went home, took down the old bed, and eagerly awaited the arrival of the King of all mattresses!

When they arrived, I had just finished putting together my daughter’s new teenage-approved bed. They put her mattress on her bed first, and then it was my turn.

They showed me how to work the remote, but come on —didn’t they need to teach me this? I just wanted them gone so I could roll around in delight. BUT what they did need to teach us was: how to unlock the child-proof lock!

So my teenager walks in and says, “Oh, cool, nice old people bed, y’all”!

But now she loves it.

Anyway, my husband and I were about to get our first night of fantastic rest, and then it happened. At 4 am, our headboard and footboard started to elevate, and before we knew it, we were squished like a taco. 

My husband yelled out What the hell is going on? Stop this thing.

Then I yelled, How the hell am I supposed to know what’s going on?

We were a sight for sore eyes as we scrambled to roll out of the bed headfirst. We slammed on the ground and fussed as we tried to get our bed out of this taco-like situation. Finally, I searched on YouTube for “How to remove the child lock from your Tempur-Pedic Adjustable Base.”

Once my husband and I lay back down on a normal level bed, we laughed and laughed until we fell out for the night or, in this case, morning!

If you have this bed or are looking to get one, remember to keep the remote on your nightstand unless you want to know what it feels like to be a surprised taco! It’s a lesson we learned the hard way, but one we’re happy to share.

  7. I just laughed so hard, and I am so sorry for that. I’ll be honest with you; one bypassed buying mattresses like your new one because I am afraid of them malfunctioning.

    I hope the rest of your sleeping nights/mornings will be taco-position free! Lol.

  9. Oh man had you been asleep on your stomach, it could have been a more horrifying situation or say you were sleeping with your foot in a cast and couldn’t bend your leg.,,this story makes me never want a bed like that

      1. It took some getting used to. It’s good for me because I’m short but my husband is tall so when I adjust it too much I find him in fetal position.🤣🤣🤣. We adjust it mainly while watching TV or hanging out but keep it flat/ slightly elevated to sleep.💕

  12. 😲😂😝🤣😜 LMAO! Oh no, not the man-eating/woman-eating mattress??? Belladonna, at first I thought I was reading a story you wrote! Only you and your husband! I still can’t stop laughing! Guurrrllllll….only YOU! A taco? 🌮🌮🌮 Or was it a burrito? This is too daggone hilarious! That’s some kind of mattress I’ll say. At first I thought you were reenacting “Nightmare on Elm Street” or “Poltergeist!” But when I realized it was in fact real, I really rolled over on the floor laughing my behind off!!! 🛏🛏🛏
