Did the house choose them?

His embrace, distant and hesitant, was a painful reminder of his emotional struggle. Eliza and her siblings felt their father’s inner turmoil and his evident reluctance to show affection upon his return home.

Eliza sat, her mind consumed by the haunting memories of the house. The fear and discomfort seemed to seep into her very being, especially when she recalled the last time she saw her dad, which must have been two months ago. The house, in his absence, took on a less sinister tone.

The menacing aura was a stark contrast to its usual atmosphere!

His presence was a catalyst for the house’s unrest. When Dad was around, the house would come alive, but in a disturbing way. The furniture would shift. It was as if the house was breathing, the chairs and tables moving and creaking, the curtains fluttering as if caught in a breeze that wasn’t there. When the furniture would shift, it was a violent act, slamming against the wall.

Eliza could not wait for the eerie hug to end; she felt his discomfort and the palpable anger that surged within him when he was touched. When she let go, she watched her dad practically run into his room and slam his door. She followed after him slowly and leaned her ear to the door.

She overheard her mother asking him, “What’s wrong? Where have you been”?

In a low, stern voice, he whispered, “Leave me alone”. His voice carried a weight of exhaustion and frustration, a clear indication of the emotional burden he carried.

When her mom’s phone rang, Eliza leaned harder against the door. She heard her mom let out a terrifying scream and then said, “I’ll be there as soon as possible.” When she hung up the phone, she told her husband, “You have to stay with the kids while I leave town for a few days.”

Eliza felt like her heart stop; she couldn’t catch her breath, and fear struck her entire body. She knew that once her mom left, the house would take over her father.

The worst was yet to come!

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!
