Can you disagree without yelling?
“The more loudly you yell, the more unintelligent you appear.” But yellers seem to see this differently. It’s as if the yelling battle feels empowering to them, and the louder they get, the more they think they’re right.
The other day, I was listing my pet peeves, and let’s just say I lost count. I have so many things that irritate me, and when someone displays one of those things, I can’t handle it.
The older I get, the worse I get with my tolerance or lack thereof!
Is it tough to understand that everyone has a different opinion? And it’s okay if no one agrees with you; yelling will not make others throw in the towel and say, “You’re right; who did I think I was to actually think differently than you? You’re yelling,” Helped everyone!
Storytime
There she was, coming into the room larger than life, huffing and puffing and instantly getting on everyone’s nerves. It was easy to get under her skin; all you had to do was disagree with her, and BOOM, EXPLOSION TIME.
And this time, the explosion was over pizza; yes, I said PIZZA!
A discussion between a few folks and I was in full effect. We were hungry, and all had a burning taste for pizza. We all have our places that we hate and others that we love. After 20 minutes, we agreed on the scrumptious decision, and right before we placed the order, we walked to Ole Yeller.
Apparently, she thought we all needed hearing aids because she yelled out why she hated our choice and why we should go with her choice.
After our ears were ringing, her ex-best friend—did you catch that “ex” part? Okay, good! Her ex-best friend told her that if she didn’t care about our pizza choice, she would be more than welcome to get her own pizza on the way home.
Of course, she didn’t like that, but she stayed, and with every bite, she pointed out every flavor that was less than satisfactory. Before exiting, she threw her second slice in the trash and yelled this pizza is nothing like we get in New York.
No shit, but we aren’t there, are we?
Nor was getting a pizza from New York an option, although I’m sure every pizza place there heard her loud, obnoxious mouth.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

I rarely yell. I’m more the type that shuts down, stays quiet 🤐 and internalizes my anger. Maybe yelling would be healthier, lol

I didn’t yell unless it was necessary. 😜 The dangerous part was when I spoke softly if I was upset! 🤨

I agree, loud doesn’t mean they are right. Just means they don’t know how to communicate effectively, it also drives people away from them.

Yes drives people right away! It’s so annoying

I don’t respond well to yellers. I don’t have anybody in my circle of friends who yells when I have a different opinion. It is normal to go with the majority’s choice of restaurant, is it not? Did you ever include her again in a group for dinner? She spoilt the evening for everybody.

Stella I couldn’t deal with a friend like that. She was included by her close friend, well ex friend. No she never attended another one of our functions

Yelling is rarely a productive way to resolve differences. If anything, it shuts down communication and makes people less receptive to other viewpoints.

I don’t have many people who yell in my life, probably because I’ve weeded them all out. 😅 But my biggest pet peeve is when people talk over me and for some reason it ALWAYS happens to me during important discussions. I don’t know what it is about me that says, “please go ahead and interrupt me even though you asked me a question”. I just let them do their thing and then a few hours later when a project explodes because they never got my answer, I silently smile to myself.

Yelling has no place in any form of communication except in emergencies or trying to get someone’s attention in a very loud environment.
Yelling is a form of verbal abuse and illiteracy.
Thanks, Bella.

You know what, I never thought of it that way. It is a sign of illiteracy

Yelling isn’t all that effective. People just stop listening.

One yells when he or she thinks that the other person is not listening the way he or she wants. It shows the ‘distance’ between the two.

Unfortunately, it seems like everyone experiences that kind of person at least once if not more than once. They are difficult to deal with. Toxic people are best left to themselves ugh 😫 I had to cut a few toxic people out of my live a few years back. It wasn’t easy because once of them was close to me. I just couldn’t watch them self- sabotage anymore.

The closer you are to the person the tougher it is to disconnect! But I know you feel so free now
