We are living in a superficial society. Who has the best butt on Instagram or the best breast?
What part of me should I expose to get more followers and get that one person to notice me and “Fall in Love.” We are constantly comparing ourselves to the next person. Please believe me when I tell you that males do this too.
Instagram is flooded with some of the most beautiful people globally, and trying to keep up with filtered images can be tiresome. Trust me, I know. I am so guilty of scrolling and scrolling and then questioning my entire existence. I remember this one day; I was feeling so good about myself. I was having a good hair day; my thighs looked more firm because of all my squats. Don’t even get me started on how my stomach looked flatter, and I saw a couple of ABS exposing themselves. Then I did the unthinkable… I opened Instagram!!!!
Instantly, I became fat and not so attractive; my makeup looked as if a blind man had applied it. Needless to say, I felt like I needed a complete makeover. But that isn’t even the worse part. I kept scrolling and read uplifting, positive posts, and then I felt like, hmm, okay, it’s not just my external that needs a makeover but my internal as well. At this point, I need an entire redo of my whole self!
I don’t know about you, but I hate feeling like I’m not good enough. When deep down, you know that you are. We are so hard on ourselves, and I think it comes naturally to most of us to give compliments and praise. Then look down on ourselves.
So let’s flip the script and make a pledge right now.
Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, and exhale
- Give yourself 5 compliments.
- Make a quick mental check of things that you are good at
- What are the things that come naturally to you and others may find challenging to do
- What are the things that make you happy (what energizes you)
Once I started to do this and think positive about myself, I felt like I was winning. There isn’t one picture of someone else that can make me question my worth. Not internally nor externally. I’m able to scroll through IG and maintain my confidence.
If you can’t see the beauty in yourself, stop scrolling and back away from social media! You have been warned.
You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

I don’t have Insta or TikTok partly for these reasons. Also, so much of that is fake anyway (like the Kardashians)…

I deleted my Instagram account a year ago. It’s such a time killer. People posts the best of the best pictures of them with lots of filters and glam on them which makes me feel depressed about myself. I’m happy with the way I am and I became more aware and happy about myself throughout this year. Thanks again…Mom 🙂

Yep girlfriend, it can be a buzzkill if you buy into the superficial foolishness of the self-centeredness and narcissism we all too often see on social media. Don’t buy into the hype and endless “filters.” Do you, be you! AMEN!!! 😉💖😘

Thank you for sharing your story . Social media is not reality. It’s a carefully curated highlight reel of people’s lives. And even then, it’s often filtered and edited to perfection. I’m so glad that you’ve found a way to build your confidence and to love yourself for who you are. Your post is an inspiration to others.

SM makes me worry about teens and how they view themselves. Looking at all of the photoshop pictures and fake lives being shown is a tough one for them to deal with.

I use social media to find tips on using makeup to look younger. But I refuse to spend beyond a certain price point on skincare. I’m looking for results just for myself. We need to stop comparing, like you said.

Makeup tips are great and I do the same.
it’s so funny when I see someone putting on a large number of products for their nightly routine. I just don’t know who hs time for that and how much money are they spending on all these items.

For my nightly routine, I refuse to count higher than three products. I need to go to sleep!

Social Media is the worst. It can make you feel bad if you let it. I think people need to remember that the stuff that gets posted isn;t real life. Nobody is perfect. We all have strengths, and we all have flaws.

I’ve given up “perfection” a long time ago and worked instead on trying to love myself. I often see those who work so hard on their outer beauty really suffering because they know its fleeting. Life is too short to focus on just the outside.

Amen Bridgette! If the inside needs work then who cares about the outside. Life is def to short for that.

It’s amazing how much importance is given to things that don’t really matter. Fortunately, I couldn’t care less about who’s get the best butt or biggest boobs or who wore it best. I find all that nonsense to be juvenile. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate beauty, but I’m not comparing people. It boggles my mind that things like TMZ and E! or so mainstream. Hell, even random NFL fans have had Taylor Swift shoved down their throats recently because she’s dating a player. WHO CARES??? Well, I suppose lots of people do, but WHY???

If I see Taylor Swift’s litle banngg and red lipstick one more time I’m going to hurt somebody! LOL
I am over her and Travis!
I don’t know why people are so concerned about these fake lives. Then they feel bad about their own life. Just odd!

Yeah, I don’t get it, either. I’ll never meet or know either one of them so what is happening to in their lives makes no difference to me.
