Collard Greens

Uncut collard greens are the only way to go!

It’s super easy and delicious. Grab your knife and bowl, and let’s get into the kitchen to cook up the best greens you ever had.

Okay, go, Grab

  •  Fresh collards
  • Turkey wing or ham hocks
  • Onion
  • Vinegar
  • Sugar
  • Pepper
  • Season salt ( I love Lawyrs)
  • Chicken Broth or Bone Broth ( NO WATER)

Let’s get started

  1. Break the steam off the greens
  2. Stack your greens according to size and cut
  3. Roll your greens and slice
  4. Place in a large bowl and wash them with warm water; rinse and repeat a few times

Cooking the greens

  1. Boil the Turkey wing or ham hock in 4 cups of seasoned broth until the meat is tender
  2. Add the cleaned collards and a little more pepper and seasoning.
  3. After cooked down on medium heat, add diced onions.
  4. Lastly, add 1/4 cup of sugar and cook it down on medium heat.
  5. If needed, add more broth so your geens aren’t dry

Don’t nobody want to eat some dry greens.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Where is the cutting board for those beautiful countertops?! They look almost similar to mine. Lol.

I just cooked my greens down some. I’ll warm them up tomorrow and let them finish.

I use Roma tomatoes and onions in mine and various spices (and vinegar & olive oil). I typically pan fry, then steam them.

My best friend’s stepmother (she is Kenyan) taught me how to make them like that, and I never looked back. Lol!

  2. I tend to use ham better than broth, like I use for beans, also i use bacon grease. But we also like kale, mustard and turnip greens as well. Mustard greens you dont want to cook as long though cause they are already tender as it is, so its hard to get them to hold the flavor so much. Regardless collard are awesome especially if after you get them in your plate l, twist a lemon slice over them. That tartness really brings out the flavor.

  3. I’m not much of a fan but I’ve eaten turnip greens. I wish I could taste your collards…I love how you cut the greens just like I cut romaine lettuce! I hate the stems! Are collards bitter like turnip greens?

    1. Thank you so much Kim, I would love for you to taste these so I could see what you think.
Collards aren’t bitter and that’s why I’m not a huge fan of turnips. Some folks mix the two but I’m not a fan of that.
Cutting them like this is so much fun.
