I made a promise to myself to never lie to my kids!
Okay, let me correct that, unless it’s a fun lie like Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy. I will lie if I can bring suspense and happiness to my babes, but I WILL NOT TELL A LIE on the big stuff!
No matter how embarrassing my truth is, I will tell it, and I have.
Okay, so it’s storytime, and it’s important to read this so that my Mother’s Day gift that was gifted by my preteen makes sense.
Story Time
One day my kids and I were relaxing in our family room, and my preteen said out of the blue;
“MOM, have you ever stolen anything”?
I said, “of course I have.”
All three of my kid’s interests were piqued, so I sat up and said that I loved pickles when I was in 8th grade. I craved the pickles that were GIGANTIC and individually wrapped. But unfortunately, at that time in my life, I was broke and looking for a bit of excitement, so my best friend and I entered my neighborhood grocery store and stole a few pickles. When we saw how easy it was to steal and get away with it, we kept it going until we couldn’t.
You see, one day, we stole our pickles and headed out as quickly as we could, but to our surprise, the manager was a the door waiting or us to make a fast escape. He told us to drop the pickles and never return to his store again.
The problem with that was, I used to grocery shop with my mom at that store, so now I was terrified to go in with her!
Shortly after I was dumped on my head out of the store, my mom pulled up to the very store, parked, and told my best friend and me to run in and grab a gallon of milk and bread. I immediately began to sweat bullets and broke out in an uncontrollable laugh. I REFUSED to go in and pleaded with my mom to go home. I told her I would walk there first thing in the morning.
Shockingly my mom agreed!
I never walked to the store, and nor have I eaten a bagged pickle again.
Now, this brings me to my Mother’s Day gift! PICKLE THIEF
You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

Great story!
Thank you 😂
Wonderful story. Such a creative gift. Love it.💕
Thank you!!! She’s a hoot 🤣🤣🤣
Welcome.💕🤣💕
Now I’ve got the Pickle Song in my head LOL. [“I don’t wanna pickle/I just wanna ride my motorcycle/And I don’t want to die/ I’d rather ride my motorbi– cycle”]
Don’t ask why — fantastic story 🙂
🤣🤣🤣great song!!!
Okay now I need to know why????
Because your story was about a misadventure regarding a pickle. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
OMG, how funny!!! 🤣😆😂 The Pickle Thief! 🥒🏃🏽♀️😜👣😲🥒🏃🏽♀️😱 I just love the creativity of that little gem. Now, that gift is a keeper with a real story behind it! LMAO! 😜
Wonderful story. I stole candy when I was a kid. The lady at the checkout told my mother the next time she came into the store. They made a deal for me to clean the shelves during the summer. They got free labor, and I never stole anything ever again. I guess it worked out for everyone.
What???? Just because of candy! That’s terrible
It was in the 1960s. hey didn’t think anything about child labor laws back then. My mom was a single mom before it became a thing. She wanted to teach me the value of a penny and to respect the law. The shop keeper was an old miser that wanted her shelves cleaned. it worked out well for everyone, I never even entertain the thought of taking something that didn’tbelong to me ever again. It might have scared me for life.
Okay that makes sense! You’re mom did the right thing. My mom would have done the same.
I thought I was slick when I got away with it at first. The lady waited until I came in with my mom before she said a word. They didn’t need cops back in those days to make a point.
OMG!!! Se really gotcha good! LOL
The guilt and shame waas enough for us to deal with.
They tended to drag out the guilt and shame back in my day.
They sure did! I try not to do that with my kids because I hated the feeling of guilt bing dragged out.
I didn’t use the same parenting methods with my kids.
Thank goodness we switched our methods!!! Our kids are lucky ducks.
They sure are. I had a couple who would have clean a lot of store shelves.

How cute! Love it 💙
😂 Thank you!
Haha. Look at Larry, right there waiting. Lol. This is too cute. I used to love big, sour pickles too or the bagged big, spicy ones. I actually stole a hot sausage and some penny cookies back in the day from the corner store attached to my house. The look on the face of the owner was ENOUGH to keep me from doing it ever again. He never told my mom, too. Gawd bless him.
Larry is always in business! 🤣
Girl those pickles were worth whatever punishment. I know you were happy he kept quiet!
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I was! Lol.
A powerful parent message and adorable handmade interactive card! 🥒😆
Yes I love that gift! 🤣
She is forever calling me the pickle thief.
So cute!
Oh wowww your post is so good on so many levels!! I loved the honesty, the parenting wisdom and your gift :)))
Thank you!!!! I try to stay honest and it back fires into a joke everytime. But that’s okay, I’d rather that happen then to act like I was perfect at any point in my life 😂
That is hilarious.
LOL! Thank you Nicole
This is terrific! “How dare you!?” 😂. I love the candidness and transparency! It’s so refreshing. The dog in the Hawaiian shirt makes it even better!
LOLOL! Thank you!
Wonderful story and what an amusing gift 😆
LOL! Thank you so much.
funny but not then right? I wonder if we took a poll, how many would admit to doing something similar…..honestly, I was young and dumb, and did things my kids, family, or friends….will I may tell if asked, but, hmm, maybe not
Right!!! LOL
Definitely not funny then, but over time it feels. good to laugh at ourselves. Some things should not be told. LOL
I have a similar store. I ended up cleaning store shelves during summer break over the theift of penny candy.
Oh no Molly, not penny candy! LOLOLOL
I stole those too as a. child.
But I got caught.
Me too! We were never allowed back in that store again.
