It doesn’t matter how you feel physically!
If you are over 40, then you are an old dog; well, at least that’s what your metabolism is saying.
Don’t even try to fool yourself. 40-year-old women might as well throw a funeral for their metabolism and give a farewell speech because that sucker is dead. If you want to revive it, you better lace up those sneakers and get ready to work!
But first, ask yourself these questions.
- Should you work out for 30, 45, or 60 minutes a day?
- Should you focus on cardio, weights, or both
- How many times should you eat each day?
- Is sleep important?
Now that you’ve gathered all that new information, I urge you to throw it in the trash. I don’t care what you read. No one, and I mean no one, can tell you what works for you. It’s a fact that what works for one may not work for you.
Let’s say you came across a trainer on the internet, and they start their little sales pitch a little something like this;
Hi, my name is scam artist,
I’m so excited to offer you a plan that is GUARANTEED to work. I don’t care if you want to lose 10 pounds to over 100; I promise you will meet your goal. Just follow this SIMPLE plan and watch your weight FALL off.
I have three words for this message., FULL OF CRAP!
I am over 40, and most of my clients are also. Losing weight and gaining muscle is complicated and not to mention downright frustrating. But the trick to getting an older gal back in the game is to try new things. Mix up your routine and see how cardio and weights work for you.
Then try introducing muscle confusion into your regimen. Again, there are a variety of new things you can try, and you will find yourself being able to do something that you didn’t think was possible.
Proving to yourself that you can teach new tricks to an older, more sophisticated gal.

Wonderful advice. Walking works for me. My body had craved it since I walked everywhere when I was younger. My family didn’t have a car.

It wasn’t the norm. My mother never learned how to drive. My father left when I was six. Our family was very poor. We couldn’t have afforded a car even if she could drive.

Guuuurrrrrllllll Belladonna, PREACH! Look, about 20 years ago, I was hitting the “how-to-guarantees” hard and heavy, and it did not work! My BFF who looked like a model said to me, “Do What’s Best for You!” The military style of working out wasn’t working out. I found out that those who strutted the hour glass figure ⏳⏳⏳ also had some nips and tucks. Temporary and unattainable by normal standards. So girlfriend, at 64, I am comfortable in my skin. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I also stopped allowing my FitBit to dictate their way to my good health. They are a reference guide I use, but when my step meter vibrates in the middle of a funeral, I’m not getting up out of my seat and walking around the coffin just to get my 250 steps in! LMAO! 😱🤣😜😝😂

love this…every so often, more often lately I feel the urge to get certified and become a trainer….and I’d love to.I’ve heard and have seen the best, and the worst…..and then comeone will mention the word diet to me and my head explodes, inside but yeah…..all of us either want a body like Shakira or Matthew Mcconaughey, but seriously, just working out, being active is more so much more…..if that’s a goal then yeah, disapointment will be the reward…but health, lower blood pressure, lots of good cholesterol and less of the bad…and if you want to be a runner be a runner, but better yet, overall fitness….a huge huge subject, but a great piece….

I kind of already am..I’ve 3 run groups I lead, I instruct virtual clinics, I’ve a couple on the go now….and I also occasionally give talks for other groups, oddly enough one of them is actually called hot moms – new moms getting fit – and along with selling run gear at our local running room this is my life
