God tested me today

Let me begin by saying I have great neighbors…..BUT!

And there’s a big BUT. I don’t like to be bothered that much. I have a few neighbors that are like family to me. You know, the kind of family you actually like and want to be around. But then there are a few neighbors I will push my 12-year-old to the ground so I can get away.

Don’t worry; no children were injured today.

God’s Test

I was walking around my neighborhood with my daughter and Larry. We were having a peaceful walk with the sun beating down on our faces and a fresh sweet summer smell hitting our noses. My daughter was telling me a witty joke like she always does, and we were laughing and having the best time.

Then it happened!

Here comes one of the annoying neighbors I would usually hide from, but here I was out in the open, trying to be a better person. So when she smiled, I knew that if I smiled back, she would think I was available and ready to talk. I was dying inside, reluctantly smiled back.

Just like I thought, she blabbed a mile a minute. So much so that I told my daughter to head in the house and I’ll meet her inside in just a few. Now, if I were her, I would have said, “oh no, you guys take your walk; I’m sorry I interrupted. But no, not her. She smirked as my daughter headed in.

I wanted to scream, “Lady, you are annoying; PLEASE leave me alone. But you can’t say things like that. So here I stood in the 90-degree heat with the sun beating on my face like an iron skillet.

At this point, I’m sweating like a whore in church, but she’s still blabbing.

To Run or Not To Run

I wanted to run into my house, but I thought maybe, just maybe, she needs someone to talk to. And here I am, trying to turn over a new leaf. I want God to use me and allow me to open up to people I would usually run from. So I’ve been praying for God to work on me and give me more patience and understanding.

As she was talking to me, I heard God say “Breathe”. And at that moment I knew God was doing what I’ve been praying for. Giving me patience and understanding.

I hear you God, and I thank you!

Proverbs 14:29

Lord, help me to be patient with great understanding because an individual who isn’t and is quick-tempered displays foolishness. I pray that here on earth, I reflect You in all ways and that Your understanding will govern my behaviour. Let patience have its way within my heart so that I can reflect a God-like patience to those around me. Let Your understanding shape me as a person so that I can reach and understand those who need You. Amen.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  1. This is amazing. Hats off to you for trying to be patient and listening to her. It’s a sweet gesture for not trying to be rude. I can understand your plight because a similar relative of mine turned up when I had an important exam at college the next day. The woman started talking and kept chatting for three hours nonstop without listening to my words. 😂😂😂

  2. there are several ways around this predicament…
-Just smile and nod constantly without adding to the conversation. Eventually they will run out steam and things to say.
-Start talking about , and to that imagenary 6′ rabbit thats standing next to you, as if it’s really there.. Once they think you are some sort of nutter, they will leave you alone for good..

    1. Yes just stand there with a blank look!!!! Now that’s a good one, but I’m trying to be better and actually listen. However if I keep this up she may think we’ve become best friends.

That’s it I’m going for the 6 foot bunny idea 🤣🤣🤣

  3. Whether it was gossip or they needed a shoulder to cry on, I would have have smiled than assertively said lovely day for a walk eh care to join ?. So instead of changing your routine, let them change theirs. That way you are both happy.

      1. Ah. Well again if someone needs an outlet because they are in need cool, but if the neighbor is all about gossip and you’re not nothing wrong with being assertive and telling someone you don’t care to gossip ya know.

  4. “Sweating like a whore in church.” HAHAHAHA!!! I almost fell out of my chair. On a more serious note, I admire what you did, there. The Lord is working on similar traits in me. Blessings to you!

  5. At this point, I’m sweating like a whore in church… 🥵😲😱 Belladonna, I am done! I think even God asked, “Huh?” God is ROTFL! 🤣😆😂 Just remember, prayer for patience but not foolish patience, of course you may have to play that card too. See, you sent your daughter back to the house, instead of using her to make your quick exit! LOL 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️ You probably should have said you were feeling a little faint and needed to get back home. Perhaps this lady needed to talk, but when the temperature is scorching outside and even the sun is looking for a cool breeze to cool itself down, your ass should have been sprinting home, forget the walking! 🤦🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

      1. Guuuurrrrrlllll, I know what you mean. Can’t have you out there looking like a California raisin singing “I Heard it Through the Grapevine!” 😱🍇😲 LMAO! 🤣😝🤦🏽‍♀️😆😂

  6. Times like that call for a phone. Suddenly put it to your ear and start chatting (to yourself). Make gasping noises as if you’ve just been told bad news then say, “Oh dear, I’m so sorry! When did it happen?” Not sure how you’ll get around doing that each time, but it’s worth a go because people like that have no self awareness and no social skills whatsoever. Good luck.
