You need to learn this one trick to SAVE MONEY

I am about to introduce a side of me that I don’t often share!

I love to save money. However, I don’t like to miss out on the finer things in life like travel, clothes, food, going to the theatre, sporting events, and anything else that brings me joy. But in order to do those things, you need a bulletproof savings plan.

It doesn’t matter how much money you make; if you have a dysfunctional relationship with money, then you will be broke.

When my husband and I were first married 21 years ago, we were BROKE. And over the years, I have become intuned with how important it is to make a budget. Of course, you should always have a 401K, but you need funds that you can get your hands on without receiving a penalty.

So here’s what you need to do to save money.

The first thing you need to do is right a budget. How much do you make a month? How much are your monthly expenses?

Now that you have your discretionary income, you have to decide how to save a portion of that for travel and all things that bring you enjoyment. One thing you can do is decide on a specific percentage to stash away from each paycheck or turn it into a fun game.

My New Game used for saving money

I recently read an article detailing how much money you could save if you double a penny every day for the entire month. I thought that was very intriguing, but I wanted to up the ante by doubling a dollar every day. So here is what I decided to do.

Every 10 days I double a dollar. I stopped at 10 because I’m not rich and those dollars start looking a bit aggressive after 10 days. But if you can keep it going for longer than 10 days then please do so.

I made a spreadsheet, and it looks a little like this.

Every 10 days double your dollar and then start againEvery 10 days double your dollar and then start again
11
22
34
48
516
632
764
8128
9256
10512
Should be able to save an additional 1536 extra each month

This is slightly different from my previous methods, but I like to switch things up, and I figured I would give this a go. The idea is to stick to your savings until the end of the year and then start fresh on January 1st.

Please let me know if you like savings tips, and I will be sure to continue adding this to my blog. Savings is my love language, and I would love to make it yours!

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

  1. Now this is my language!
I love this post, Bella, it’s such a great idea to turn saving into a game. I know far too many people who have nothing saved up and have suffered for it (especially these last few years.)
I think this would make a very useful tool for those who can manage it.
