85 years of greatness

“The only yardstick for success our society has is being a champion. No one remembers anything else.”

                                                      ~John Madden~

I remember giving him the evil eye!

There he was, sitting on the couch with that damn controller in his hand. He would sit in the same spot for hours, and all I would hear was Madden’s loud mouth yelling out plays.

I couldn’t help but think how awful my husband’s (boyfriend at the time) parents were for allowing him to become so addicted to a video game. And before anyone rolls their eyes or says, “well, how do you know it’s his parent’s fault” because I know them, so there’s that.

He’s always been an all-A student and smart as a whip in high school and throughout college; however, John Madden made me want to strangle this man. And every year, a new Madden football game would appear in our family room. Finally, one year, he announced that he was done and ready to move on. But then his mini-me was born and took over where he left off. But I have rules. Madden will only be played for 30-60 minutes at a time, two days a week. PERIOD!

Madden Is An Icon

Hearing his loud, booming, joyful voice during the REAL, LIVE football games was comforting. It was easy to see that he loved everything about football. His love for the game makes me more determined than ever to find that same love for something. Can you imagine how much joy you would feel if you lived each day doing something you were meant to do?

Mr. Madden, you will be missed, but a legend is never forgotten.

RIP to the man, the myth, the legend, John Madden….85 years of greatness!

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!

    1. His voice made you feel relaxed and like the game was in good hands. He will be missed so much.
Jeff you have to take a look at the special they did for him, I believe it was just a few days before he died. It was so good!!!!!

  1. 30 minutes?! You can’t even get too hype in just 30 minutes. Lol. I remember playing Madden with my brothers. We loved it. My mom hated it! But goodness . . . He was truly a legend.

    1. Girl!!! One thing about me is I will get side tracked and forget she’s on the game and she knows that 🤣
That’s why I had to limit her her only a couple of days or else she’ll end up like her father. 😂

  2. After losing Arch-Bishop Desmond Tutu, I think last night I went completely blank after they said that Madden passed away. It’s kind of funny but I have memories of when I was in college and my favorite team at the time was the Oakland Raiders, and he was the coach. I was rooting for them while we watched the tube and they won the Super Bowl in 1977. I was ecstatic! 🏈 He will be missed. 😥 Thanks for sharing your funny experiences! 😆

    1. Yes I saw he passed as well!!!! 🥺
Yes he took the Raiders all the way. I really liked that man but almost walked away from marriage because of him. I was like “looka here it’s going to be me or Madden” 💁🏽‍♀️
