Not Your Typical Fitness Message

Eat, drink, stay up late, and be merry!

Life happens in a flash; we spend most of our energy trying to change who we are and what we want to look like—constantly longing for DIFFERENT!

Well, damn it, it’s the holiday, and we need to spend time with the people who love us and whom we love. This means you might be eating a lot of goodies, drinking a few adult beverages, staying up late laughing, talking, and having funny dance battles that look terrible. So do it up and have fun doing it.

I know this might sound strange coming from a fitness coach but hear me out. Holidays are meant to be enjoyed, and there aren’t any rules that you need to stick to; accept ONE. BALANCE!

A few years ago, my husband’s grandfather passed away. He would travel from Ohio to us every year for Thanksgiving. The first year he came, I was trying to work out, and he just wanted to talk and talk. So I had to find balance; I didn’t want to be rude and walk away.

Instead, I woke up a little earlier to get a 30-minute workout done and call it quits for the day. This was the first time I didn’t feel the need to get in 60 minutes or so of exercise. It turned out I could superset my workouts, get a burn faster and move on.

By the time he woke up, I had coffee brewing and breakfast fired up. Grandpa Joe would walk into the kitchen smiling with his bright blue eyes sparkling; his wavy blond hair combed straight back with a bit of swoop to the side. He would pull out a kitchen chair and begin to talk.

The sun would fade, but his voice and spirit never did. In fact, after almost five years, it still hasn’t. His spirit will live on forever, and the lessons that he taught me will as well.

Enjoy spending time with your loved ones, any way you sit fit. Still take care of yourself but cut your workout short. Make memories with your loved ones and damn eat the cake! This is the perfect time of year to learn how to BALANCE!

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!
