Sissy That Walk

I go through phases where I really like a specific catchphrase. I will say it until people around want to slap me! But I can’t help it when something gets stuck in my brain; I have to just go with it.

So I think I told you guys that I’m hooked on RuPaul’s Drag Race. I love everything about him, and his catchphrases are packed with a punch. And yes, you guessed it, “Sissy that walk” is one of them. When the ladies are about to take the runway, he lights up this huge sign that’s right above the stage, and it says, “sissy that walk.” Right as the sign turns on, he says, “sissy that walk,” and the music begins.

I freakin love that!

I have to get up and walk with them, and my husband looks at me like I’m nuts. Maybe I am. Well yeah, I am a little.

Sissy That Walk

This song and phrase live in my soul because every part of me moves with me when I walk. I remember being teased because of the way I walk. People thought that I was purposely exaggerating the way I moved my hips. Which could not be further from the truth. If anything, I tried my damndest to calm it down.

As a matter of fact, I wrote a post about my (Walking With Power) mean walk. I have had that stride since I learned how to walk, and hilariously enough, my girls have it too. Especially my baby girl. She doesn’t walk; she struts. But the best part about that walk is they don’t try to calm it down.

Unfortunately, I always did. I didn’t have that self-confidence or screw you and your comment “type attitude.” Well, not until I was about 18. But I truly embraced my walk and that attitude when I was in my 20’s. I learned to take every step with pride. I held my head up high and…Sissy’d my walk!

I think over the past year, I’ve put a little extra BAM BAM BAM in my step. I blame RuPaul! He has helped me channel that inner being that I knew existed but was a little to self-conscience to let it loose.

So today, I encourage everyone to LET LOOSE AND SISSY THAT WALK. Life is so much better with a little sass.
