The quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful

That’s the textbook definition, but to me, it doesn’t even come close to defining gratitude. Taking a step back and examining the word gratitude makes me want to burst out of my skin. My insides are exploding with blessings. God so fit for me to be here and living well, and I don’t know why.

What did I do to deserve this life?

Not that I’m questioning God. I would never do that because my belief is firm in knowing that everything happens for a reason. I give praise to all of my good times as well as the bad. It’s just that when I think about my good times… well, there are too many to name.

But I will start with this.

I woke up this morning and laid in my bed for a couple of hours and thought about everything that took place yesterday.

I was blessed with the opportunity to help a dear friend of mine cloth the homeless. I had my whole family in the garage, organizing clothes and placing them into there designated boxes that were labeled by my 10-year-old. We wanted the process of handing out clothes to go smoothly for my friend. The labels would let the homeless know if the items in the box were men/ women tops, bottoms, shoes, scarfs, hats, towels, toiletries, blankets, or coats. We loaded up the UHaul truck, and my selfless friend was off to feed and clothe the homeless and put smiles on their faces.

As if that wasn’t enough goodness. I was able to do more! I cook for my family every day, and I’m able to sit across from them and laugh and talk about all of their funny stories, but it’s something about Thanksgiving day that just makes all of their stories even more special. Sometimes I just stare at my kids, and I can’t hear a word they are saying. All I see is light in their eyes that’s full of hope. A type of hope that people would kill to have.

And for that, I’m grateful…the exploding kind

Holiday Fitness Challenge

We made it! I have talked my head off about the challenge of a lifetime and now here we are. I am so excited to tell you what’s to come, so without further ado here is all the information you need to get started.

Do I Dare

The journey began on Monday morning, and as of today, I am hooked. I’m sore but none the less hooked. I woke up on Monday morning in search of a new workout. They desperately need to be switched up, or boredom will set in.  Then I’ll lose sight of what my goals are.

I understand what you’re thinking 

Now, I know that I’m a trainer, and I’m supposed to stay pumped up and ready to workout no matter what. However, that couldn’t further from the truth. We get tired and need a motivator too. I feed off of positive energy just like everyone else, especially during the fall and winter. My body doesn’t like to move when the temperatures take a dive. I drag out of bed, kicking and screaming and just want to bury my head under the warm covers.

Definitely would if I could, but I can’t so up I go!

So, I pushed my kids out the door for school, took Larry for a walk, made all the beds.

I stared at the wall for a second in a profound daze. Then, I stumbled over to my Keurig to make a strong cup of coffee.

After I checked my emails, I began my search for a new Beachbody on Demand workout. I scrolled looking for a sweet face because maybe he/she would be a little less intense then what I’m used to. After a 30 minute search, I found a pretty little redhead named Jericho, and I thought okay she looks pleasant. Plus, the name of the program seemed catchy, “Core De Force.”

Cute name, right? Plus mixed martial arts… okay, let’s do this!

Spider Monkey Lady

20 minutes later, I’m dripping in sweat, and I began to question my whole life. She tricked me with her sweet and innocent face. Yes, the program cover looks intense, but if you have ever heard her talk or saw her smile, you would totally think that she was nurturing and super chill during her workouts. Turns out she’s a spider monkey!

At the end of the workout, I collapsed on the floor and thought I kinda like this.

I think I’m a little cray cray!

This seat is taken

Stop trying to be someone else!!! Why is this so hard to do? I mean, can we just stop looking at each other and taking notes. Be you, Be DIFFERENT. Trying to fit in is one thing, but trying to take on the personality or tone of another is flat out ridiculous. I tell my kids to be different. Do not conform to predigested thoughts and ideas. BE YOU.

Do you realize how taxing it is to try to be someone other than yourself? You are always in competition with someone and coming up short. At some point, you have to come to understand that sit is already taken. Find out why you are so unhappy with you and fix it.

Over the summer, my daughter and I watched a great deal of Catfish. This is a televised show on MTV/Hulu. Catfish is about people taking on the face/personality of someone else and fooling people over social media. The Catfish usually take photos of someone that they don’t know personally, but they like what they see. They know that by using this person’s picture, they will attract the type of person that they desperately desire to be. I genuinely feel that the catfish actually start to feel better about themselves when they are portraying to be someone else.

I am always sad after the show. Okay, so here comes Nev and Max with the Victim (the person that was catfished), and they knock on the catfish door and out walks a blue sole.  I can not tell you how many times an overweight person walks out the door with their head down and looking so pitiful. The Catfish usually will say,
“I know that I am not what you expected and I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you, but I loved how it felt when you desired to be with me, and I knew if you saw me you wouldn’t want to talk to me anymore.” The catfish continues with, ” Everything about our relationship was real EXCEPT, I’m not who you thought I was.”

I just want to reach in that TV and grab the catfish and tell them that they are enough.  Spend time and work on your internal self. Once you love yourself and remove anyone and anything that reminds you of what you use to be or even worse, what you never were but what they wanted you to be. Stop trying to be someone else and stand in your truth, and love it.

It is incredible how good you feel about yourself when you start to eat clean, workout and start to better yourself mentally. For sure, it is okay to have someone that motivates you to be better, but don’t take it to an unhealthy place.

I speak from a familiar place, I wasn’t always confident. I felt like I wasn’t good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, or talented enough. I always wanted to change things about me that would make me a little more desirable. But then I realized that feeling this way about myself is a waste of time. I’m losing valuable time, I’m losing at life. So I decided to stop focusing on the things that I hated about me and instead what I LOVE. My confidence and self-love grew. I stopped looking at the already taken seat and sat in my own….wearing my crown and all.
