I Thought I Lost You

October 1st is one of my favorite days of the year because that’s the day that I became a mom. Some may argue and say that the day you found out about the baby is the big day and welcomed you into parenthood. I disagree. When you look into those eyes and see them looking back at you and feel their tiny hand grip your finger… that’s when you become a parent. Things are about to get real. Your life is no longer your life. Everything you do should be in the best interest of your baby. Your needs, wants and desires are put on the back burner and if you don’t like the way that sounds then please don’t have anymore.

My other two favorite days are February 10th and September 29th. We welcomed two more beautiful babies in the world and boy did we have to level up. As a woman, I was shocked at how much time I had to put in every single day. When they were all small I would put them down for a nap or just tell them to lay and rest for 30 minutes. While they were doing that I would just stare at the wall. Don’t even think I blinked for at least 10 of those minutes. Most days I was a tired and delusional soul.

I remember when Makenzie was born, Elijah was in kindergarten and he never wanted to do his homework. He cried and threw a fit every day and every day I had to threaten his life. Here I was waking up 3 times in the middle of the night with my newborn baby, and then as soon as she was cozy in my arms the alarm clock that I wanted to throw out the window would sound off. I would stumble downstairs and fix breakfast, comb hair and make sure my energetic son and mild-mannered daughter were ready to hit the car for drop off. I don’t know why I didn’t let them ride the bus back then. By the time I reached the house, it was time to feed Makenzie and get started on my routine.

Every growing day I lost a little piece of me. I don’t think I realized it until I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize myself. Yes, I gained weight but it was more than the weight. It was more than what I saw it was what I didn’t see. That beam of light and determination was gone. I made sure there was light in everyone in my household and felled to see mine was gone. It’s hard for me to describe this discovery without getting drawn back into that painful moment. I made sure that I ran my household with little flaws and that took every bit of me. I left nothing in my pot and almost lost my own identity. All of a sudden I was Elijah’s wife, Samantha’s mom, Elijah’s Mom, and Makenzie’s mom. At that moment all I wanted to be was KELLI.

At this moment and forever more that’s who I am first…KELLI

Definitely Not My Prince Charming

The Damsel in distress is the classic theme in literature, films, and art. Here we have this beautiful lady with her heart made of gold and all the animals are drawn to her. But she is imprisoned by an evil being and only her one true love can save her. Okay, there is that and then we have sleeping beauty which the one I really can’t stand. The only person that could wake her is her one true love. YUCK.

But, I can totally chill with Belle. She was not tolerating crap and waiting for that one magnificent rich man to come and sweep her off of her feet and make her and her father wealthy and safe. No, not my Belle. She was always reading and protected her father and his dreams. She didn’t let Gaston push himself onto her or degrade her father. Instead, she fell in love with a man that was well, not so attractive and was a total and complete outsider. Belle was saved by her love and also saved her love. She is the OG of princesses. She always had a brain, sharp tongue and was unapologetic for using them. I mean like seriously… what a freakin motivational spirit.

I swore that I would be like Belle. I never wanted to have a man enter into my life and feel like without him I’m lost. I always wanted my person to know that without you I’m perfect but together we’re unstoppable, a force to be reckoned with. I don’t want to “complete” you and I don’t need anyone to “complete” me. We should already be whole before we get together. Two half people do not make a whole person… it makes a whole mess.

I want every woman to refuse to get sucked in by this foolish talk of a man coming to sweep them off their feet. Keep all 10 of those toes planted on the ground, stay firm and in control. In addition to that connect with that person that will be that inspiration and that back that will hold you down while you do the same. Equally Yoked… that’s the goal!

I am a firm believer that women/men should only allow someone in their life that will uplift them. Help make each other better. Both partners should bring something of value to the table and not take and drain the other. I married someone that was broke…honey not a dollar to his name but what he had was faith, determination and a brilliant mind.
I matched him and we transformed together.

Are You Summertime Fine

Now you all know that you want to be in the best shape of your life this summer so let’s go!!!! The weather is now turning and I am ready to throw on a bathing suit and head to the beach. Who’s with me?

Okay, let me break this down. I am sick and tired of summertime rolling around and I’m sitting here feeling like an Oompa Loompa in my shorts. To hell with that, not this year!  I am about to live my best life while getting my life. Let me tell you how.

On Monday, April 29th I am starting my 30 day Get Fit With Kelli Challenge. During this challenge, I will lay out what workouts you are to do for the week. The workouts will consist of:

  • Cycling
  • Runnin
  • Walking
  • Weights
  • HIIT Drills
  • Dancing

I want everyone to commit to working out for 60 minutes EVERYDAY. You can choose to break it up and do 20, 20, 20 or 30, 30 or the method that I recommend 60 minutes all at once.

Here are my stats from last week. This will give you an idea of what I aiming for during the next 30 days.

It is so important to raise your heart rate every day and to drink at least half your body weight in water.

Secondly, Rest make sure you are getting enough rest. What’s enough rest? For me, this means 8 hours but we are all different so it is important to find out what works for your body. Without rest, weight loss goals will not be met because your body responds best when you are fully recovered from the day before. For instance, I remember being in college and studying for my exams. I had 6 classes that required me to be rested if I wanted to recall all the material. I couldn’t stay up late night after night and think that I would successfully get through my classes. Your body works the exact same way.

Lastly, and the most important piece that will change your life is the nutrition aspect of this challenge. Let me speak for myself and say that if I eat whatever I want and then go to the gym and damn near kill myslef for 3 hours I will lose 0 pounds. As a matter of fact, I will blow up and gain enough weight to get me through winter hibernation. Oh, wait I’m not a bear, but I can definitely eat like one and sound like one if you try to take my plate away. But I have changed the way I see food and I will give it my all to help you as well.

This Is The Day That Counts

Yes, I know It’s Saturday and you want a rest day. But this is the day that counts the most. I know that you had a full week of work and hopefully you did some type of workout every day. However, every positive action that you took towards becoming a better you can and will be undone by the choices you make today.

So many of us choose to make Saturday our day to have a cheat meal, which is totally okay if you stick to only one meal. Don’t turn that cheat meal into a cheat day. often times we will start the day off with an unhealthy option and from that moment on our body and mind will crave more sugar. So let’s start off right.

For instance, when you wake up have a healthy breakfast and then WORKOUT. When you return home to have a protein shake make this the time to throw a few greens in the blender so that you are getting your daily vitamin intake. Lastly, don’t forget to continue to DRINK WATER. I tend to stick with drink half of my body weight and if I am working out in the warm weather then I will increase my consumption.

Now here we are at dinner and you are probably ready to consume some major calories. But guess what? I guarantee that due to the wise choices that you made previously you will not eat as much as you wanted to. The body is a funny machine. Mentally you are wanting everything that you gave up during the week but your body isn’t craving or missing the calories. So listen to your body and not that hungry mind.

Make this day count and continue to make healthy choices!

It Was My Energy That Kept Me Positive

It was a warm day, perhaps the warmest this far in July. The sun felt good on my skin, and the fresh smell of pineapples and strawberries made me happy. I laid there on the sand with a book resting on my stomach. The waves crashing into each other relaxed my soul. My anxiety was at a standstill, and all I felt was peace. I can’t help to wonder if I didn’t have that memory would I still be able to control my anxiousness.

For the first time in my life, I was happy. My soul was happy. I’m literally living life with the person that I was meant to be with. However, over the years the love of my life has witnessed my drastic weight gain and loss first hand. He knows when I am beating myself up and showers me with compliments. But guess what compliments go in one ear and out the other if you don’t believe what you are hearing.

I had to question his words because I’m not the person he married. My body has drastically changed, and I am not that same woman that was lying on the beach with a flat stomach and wearing a two-piece bikini. I’m a mom of 3, the flat stomach has gone but making its return, and I’m a few pounds heavier. Okay, maybe more than a few.

With this being the case I had to force my mood to stay consistent, and I couldn’t let my kids or husband find out how I was feeling inside…..like a failure…a big fat failure.  Before I had children, I made a promise to myself. I swore that I wasn’t going to blow up and become a person that I didn’t recognize and that’s just what I did. I looked in the mirror and hated myself. My stomach was huge and soft, my hips seemed to have doubled in size and don’t even get me started on my thighs.

I wanted to fall in a deep depression, but I kept a smile on my face and determination in my heart, body, and soul. I never wanted my family to feel my pain from this one little issue. Because overall  I was beyond blessed to be married to Elijah and have 3 beautiful and healthy babies. I knew that if I made them my reason for change, then change would happen.

So I am telling you from experience, you have to find a reason to lose weight. It has to be something so much deeper then I want to fit in my favorite jeans. It has to be something that will motivate you to never stop fighting for your life. When you are tired of eating right or working out you turn to your reason or reasons and keep winning. Get that person back that you thought was gone for good!

Fluffy Strawberry Mousse

Oh, Summertime I smell you getting closer! I am so happy. This is my second favorite time of year, Fall is the best but summer I welcome you with open arms. Summertime for me means busting out my patio furniture, lighting up that grill, planting beautiful flowers outside and cooking delicious light meals and desserts.

Spring However, is my test dummy. I always try out all new recipes and some of them make it to the summer menu and some don’t. This year I started out with a Strawberry Mousse, I will continue to perfect this recipe over the next few weeks. So as of now on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this a solid 7 but soon it’ll be a 10.

Follow me into my kitchen and let’s get started!


  • 5 whole graham crackers
  • 2 tbs melted butter
  • 2 tsp sugar

The Mousse

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 8 ounces of cream cheese
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla

In a large bowl crush the crackers, add butter and sugar. Mix until it is finely crumbled. Set aside.

In an electric mixer add cream cheese and strawberries. Add vanilla and slowly pour in the cream.

Now time to create the layers. Graham cracker mixture on first and then mousse and proceed back and forth to make as many layers as your heart desires. Then either garnish with a strawberry or more of your sweet tasty crumbs.

Couponing Made Easy

When I’m on a mission to transform my life, I go all out. I eat clean, workout, go to bed on time, limit the number of stressful people and things in my life.  Most of I motivated myself by saving money. There isn’t anything better than saving money.

It’s so easy to do and so much FUN. I can’t believe my eyes when I look at my receipt and see that I owe a couple of dollars and I get to walk out the store with bags of household products and food. However, couponing for food is more difficult then household products. Every week the newspapers are loaded with coupons and they are primarily for detergent, soap, deodorant, lotion, face wash, makeup, hair products, mouthwash, feminine products, toothpaste, and cleaning products, etc.

My go-to coupon locations are Dollar General Store, CVS, and Publix. But please don’t limit yourself to these stores, I go to them because I know they will not disappoint me. But if you have a favorite store then learn their policies. One thing you have to keep in mind is every store will handle coupons differently and with knowing that I like to stick to my go-to stores because I know that every transaction will go smoothly.

Over the years I have come to know all the cashiers and they know that I like to break my transactions up so that I can minimize my out of pocket expenses. For instance, when I go to CVS I break my transactions up into 4 or 5 orders. I use the extra bucks from my first transaction towards my 2nd transaction. Then I continue that same pattern until I am done.
